What roles can I volunteer for in our schools?
There are so many ways to make a difference! Whether it’s mentoring students, donating school supplies, assisting in classrooms, or tutoring, your impact will be felt. Just a heads-up: due to FERPA regulations, volunteers can’t handle grading or enter grades. And most schools prefer parents volunteer in classrooms other than their child’s to maintain a balanced environment for learning.
How often do I need to volunteer?
Your time, your schedule! Whether you can commit regularly (like for tutoring) or prefer one-time events, we’ll work with you. Our Volunteer Coordinator will help find the perfect fit based on your availability.
What if I need to cancel?
Life happens! If you can’t make your volunteer commitment due to illness or travel, just give the school a heads-up as soon as possible so they can adjust.
Is a background check required?
Yes, for roles that involve direct contact with students (like tutoring, mentoring, or chaperoning), a background check is required. Got questions? Reach out to HR at 910-678-2333!
How do I complete a background check?
It’s easy! Just fill out the CCS Volunteer Registration online by visiting the CCS Volunteer Registration page, or click here to get started!
Is training required?
Yes, but don’t worry—it’s simple! All volunteers complete an online orientation. Starting January 1, 2025, volunteers working directly with students will also need some extra training.
What happens after I submit the volunteer form?

Welcome to the Team: Once cleared, we’ll send you a warm welcome email with important next steps.
Next Steps: Within 3-5 business days, your school’s Volunteer Coordinator will call to guide you through everything you need to know to get started.
